In the past weeks, chapters across the nation ,including the Virginia Xi chapter, have spoken up about the injustices we’ve all seen happening throughout the world. Our chapter does not condone any acts of hate and combated these injustices by releasing a formal statement (seen below) as well as participating in the non-violent march around Old Dominion’s campus, and by providing materials for those who wanted to educate themselves further on topics regarding racism, etc. (this link will also be provided below our chapters statement)
Our Chapters Statement:
“All,
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr.
To begin, the Virginia Xi brothers send our thoughts and prayers to George Floyd’s family and friends as well as any others who have suffered as a result of these tragedies. We hope that his death will spark more than just a nationwide conversation, but a commitment from every member of the American society to put an end to actions similar to what we watched unfold in Minneapolis.
Old Dominion University Sigma Phi Epsilon’s Virginia Xi Chapter strongly condemns all acts of racism. Under our principles of “Virtue, Diligence, and Brotherly Love” no acts of hate will be tolerated, and we stand in solidarity with our friends, peers, and our own brothers who face continued oppression.
Fraternally, Sigma Phi Epsilon Virginia Xi”
